Eli's First Easter 2011

Well it was our first Easter in Greenwood and it was wonderful! What a great time to celebrate that Christ has Risen! It was beautiful weather. We started off the night before explaining the story of Crucifiction of Christ and then how 3 days later he rose from the tomb to Noah. Even though he didn't understand one bit, he listened and it was good practice for the years to come! That morning we woke up to the Easter bunny bringing us just a small Easter basket filled will some fun things. Then we went to Northside Baptist Church, which is where on Easter Sunday, Brian and I decided that this was where we were going to join and make our home church. Church was awesome, the music and the message was one of the best I've ever heard on Easter Sunday and I thought I would never say that! Then onto lunch with the Vahjen Family, which was very yummy. Then off to our very first Pete's (Grandpa's) Easter egg hunt. Noah loved it! He was so good at it! Although, he looked like towards the end he was about to pass out due to the heat and running around! The crazy thing is that at last year's egg hunt Noah was crawling! How time flies! It was a wonderful Easter! What a blessing!

Noah's 2nd Birthday

Well I will have to say Noah turning 2 was a tough time for us. We are so thankful he is a healthy, happy little boy, but we just don't want him to grow up so fast. We decided just to have a family birthday party. It was so nice to have everyone up to our house in Greenwood. Everyone came to celebrate this special occasion! Noah was so cute, after he opened each gift, he went and gave each person who gave him the gift a hug. We are so very proud of our little "baby" Noah! He is so entertaining and a people person with lots of love to give! In these pictures Eli is 7 months and he is just a precious little boy!

This is too funny...Brian sat Eli up on the couch and Noah came right up to him dancing and wiggling and Eli just started dying laughing. Eli has never laughed really before and it was just such a cool and hysterical bonding moment between the two of them!

Noah is now 22 months old and Eli is 6 months old. We have now been in Greenwood for 8 months and we are settling in nicely. The past month has been a rough one though, the boys have been sick quite a bit. Brian, Noah, and I all had the stomach bug about 3 weeks ago. Then Noah about two weeks later had a double ear infection and they thought he had RSV too. Then poor little young Eli tested positive for RSV the next week, then two days later he had a double ear infection, and then a day later he was put on breathing treatments. Then the next week both the boys back to back began with vomitting, diarrhea, and fever. Seeing your two little boys throw up is one of a mothers worst nightmare because they are so helpless. We are now recovering and hope the spring will bring healthiness. It is so neat now how much the boys are interacting. They really love each other a lot!

Eli has been such a great blessing. He is happy and cheerful all of the time! He is such a good baby and just goes with the flow all the time. He is now 6 months old and we can't believe it! Time just flies! The doctor told me to start him on rice cereal at 5 months, but I just didn't want to do it, because that meant he was growing up. Its crazy, with Noah I wanted him to do everything ASAP, but with Eli I just don't want him to grow up!

Eli's First Snow and Noah's Second Snow At Our New House

We have had 2 snows in our new house now, with the last one leaving us with 7 inches of beautiful snow! It lasted for a week on our front yard! Eli of course had no idea what was going on, but everytime we got bundled up for the snow he passed out, since he was so bundled up! Noah had a love/hate relationship with the snow, he loved sleding down the hills, but hated walking in his boots in the deep snow. He loved to eat the snow with his daddy!

Well its been a wonderful CHRISTmas! The Vahjen family did many things to start our traditions. Noah is at the age where he really enjoyed Christmas. We picked out and decorated a tree, built our very first "Vahjen Family Gingerbread House," visited Santa Claus (Noah was scared), saw Christmas lights and animals at the live nativity scene at the Connie Maxwell House, Santa brought us gifts, opened presents, and played in snow the day after Christmas! We have had a blast in December!

OUR LITTLE EINSTIEN... Well we are raising the kid right...already reading at 3 months! Ha! Don't we all wish. When Brian saw this, he said that Eli has his genes! Then I decided to text the picture to friends and family with that caption, and Brian said don't spell genes, "Jeans" What confidence my husband has in me! NOAH'S SURGERY... Well Noah FINALLY got his tubes in his ears and his adenoids out! This is him riding in the wagon at the surgery center before going under. Thank goodness for the wagon or else he wouldn't have made it! He was a trooper, because he had a rough time in the recovery room and the entire week after. Now he is a lot more pain free and happier! We are so proud of him for being such a trooper really most of his life with all his ear problems! I wish we could have done the surgery sooner for his sake! BROTHERLY LOVE...

Noah absolutely loves to give Baby Eli hugs and kisses, he just doesn't get to do it easy sometimes. He basically suffocates the poor baby, but I guess its the thought that counts! Noah Playin' and Sayin' "Love Ya!" Noah is full of life these days, especially since he just got tubes in and his adnoids out a week ago, he is feeling much better! He is just nonstop and going all the time. He is so entertaining and cracks us up all the time! Love him!

Well Halloween and the days leading up to it was tiring, but a success. Noah dressed up as the boxer, Noah "The Ark" Vahjen and Eli was a precious dalmation puppy! Starting wednesday before Halloween we took the boys trick or treating at the First Baptist Church in Greenwood. That was so much fun and Noah loved it. Thursday we went to "Boo Bash" in uptown, which we will not be returning to. It was nuts with soooo many people and people that came out of the woodwork in Greenwood. Saturday, it was just the boys and I going to Columbia, because Brian was on call. We went to see my Aunt Barbs, Uncle Dick, and cousin Addie so they could meet Eli for the first time. That night we went to cousin Maddie and Hampton's birthday party. Noah had a blast on the slide and with the animals at the petting zoo. Then on sunday Noah went trick or treating for the first time. He loved it and really worked the boxer outfit. Eli won everyone over by looking like the cutest little puppy!!! We are so very blessed with our two little boys! o

Life with our new addition of Baby Eli is absolutely wonderful! We have been so blessed with another little boy into our family. He has been an excellent baby. He only cries when he has to have his diaper or clothes changed. He does not like to be cold and naked, nor does he like cold wipes on his little behind. He is quite the cuddle bug and loves to be held. Our poor baby has had some problems with projectile spit up constantly and so did his big brother Noah, so I think we might be in for a long 9 months of spit up again. Big brother Noah is doing really well with Eli and has been quite a big help. I have taught him to throw away Eli's dirty diapers in the trash for me! Brian has been such a big help with the boys, which has made our transition much easier. We make a great team!!

Noah and Eli's First Greenwood County Fair and "Mud Boggin"...What an Experience!

We took Noah and Eli to the Greenwood County Fair, where that night they had "mud boggin." I have never in my life heard of such a thing. Of course Noah had a blast and Eli slept the entire time on my chest in the baby bjorn. Noah didn't ride any rides because he was too short and young, but was totally entertained by everything going on and cousin Landen riding all the rides. Mud boggin was an experience and let me tell ya, the people watching was an experience in itself. Although we had a great time seeing Noah enjoying it all, the elephants ears were just not even comparative to the ones in Columbia!

ELI AT THE HOSPITAL :( ...

Unfortunately our family has had some set backs since our little Baby Eli has been born. After trying to recovery from my delivery, I ended up getting sick. Then our little man Noah ended up getting sick with Hand, Foot, and Mouth infection. Then after all of that, a couple of days ago Baby Eli starting running a fever, and since he is so young they ended up having to admit him into the hospital for 48 hrs, so he could get IV antibiotics and testing. He ended up having a viral infection, which is a blessing, because all of his other lab work was negative. God has really been by ourside through all of this, especially since all these things have occured and we just moved to a new place. We feel so blessed that our family is together and healthy!

I LOVE BEING A BIG BROTHER... Noah just loves Baby Eli to pieces. He has adapted very well to Eli coming home. he is always very excited to see him and gets a big smile on his face! Everytime we ask him, "where is baby Eli," he runs over with a big smile on his face and points to Eli. Iwas changing Eli's diaper and asked Noah to help me and brought a diaper over and placed it on top of Eli's tummy. Then Eli began to cry, as he does not like his diaper changed. So Noah brought over his cup and put it on Eli's mouth to soothe him. Too sweet! It is so neat to already see the interaction. ELI'S FIRST BATH... Eli did great with his first sponge bath, although he did not like the water and being cold. What a neat experience giving your little son his first bath with your husband!

Eli Phillip Vahjen born August 25, 2010 @ 12:14 pm 8.2 oz. and 20.5 in. long I went into labor at our house and started having contractions at 11:00 tuesday night, which is the same time I started having contractions with Noah. They were 10 minutes apart all night long, so we did not go to the hospital. We called the doctor at 7:45 and he said, "well come on in and lets have a baby!" We got to the hospital and I was already 5 cm dilated, so they started my epidural, started me on pitocin, and broke my water, and only an hour after that I was already dilated 9 cm. I only had to push for 30 minutes and our little baby Eli was born. His color was great and he was healthy! What a blessing for Brian and I. We were so concern about the health of our baby, so when he came out healthy, we were so relieved! We thank everyone for all their prayers. Eli was born 2 weeks early, but we were so blessed that he made it full term. So far Eli is a great baby and has made it so easy on Brian and I. Noah is doing great with Eli, especially for a 16 month old! If you ask him "where is baby Eli, he walks over and points to Eli. Too cute! God is so good and we feel so blessed to have our new addition to our family.

Eli's Nursery and Update

Well we have finally made some progress on our house, including Eli's nursery and Noah's room. We are so excited to finally meet our Baby Eli! We thought he might already be here by now, but God has blessed us and kept baby Eli "in" and he is now full term so it is now safer if he comes. At 33 weeks, I went in for a check up and was complaining of some pressure and it turns out that I was already dilated 1 cm and 70% efaced at such an early time. So we sent out prayer requests to help Baby Eli stay in and that he did. He made it to 36 weeks and I was dilated then at 3 cm and 80% efaced! I am now today 37 weeks and Baby Eli has made it this far inside my belly! I go to the doctor tomorrow, so we will see where we stand! Keep us in your prayers for a healthy Baby Eli sometime soon! We are so excited!

Well we finally got moved into our new house, which is a blessing. We still have a lot of unpacking to do and a lot of changes to make to the new house. And man, it sure is hard trying to unpack pregnant with a 15 month old! I just went to the doctor and was having some pressure, so he checked me. I am 33 weeks and he said I was dilated 1.5 cm and 70% efaced! Holy Moly! He said that this is not too uncommon since it is my second child. So we will see if Eli shows up sooner than expected...but then again he might just come on time...we will see!!!

BABY BOY ELI IS COMING SOON!!! I have yet again been so slack about our blog. Its sad how much has gone on, but I have yet to put it on our blog. Well we are epecting Baby Boy Eli on September 6, 2010. Yep, thats right I am already almost 8 months pregnant! Crazy I know. Noah will be a big brother and he and Eli will be 17 months apart. I know call us crazy, but we are so excited that they will be so close in age! We can't wait to meet Eli soon! We went on our Vahjen Beach trip with my family in North Myrtle Beach for a week. We had so much fun, but Noah had the most fun. He was so pooped from the beach, he took 3 naps a day. The best thing of all while we were there, was that Noah took his first steps. It was so awesome, because both Brian and I were there to experience it! Noah just loved the water and the beach, but he did try to each every shell on the beach! Noah was so much fun! As if all this wasn't enough going on, Brian signed to work at Greenwood Eye Clinic, we are moving to Greenwood, SC, and we bought a house. All of this just before Baby Eli's arrival. So many things, but all exciting! We looked at so many houses and finally decided on one. We are nervous about moving, but know that this is where God wants us to be and raise our family. Everything has worked out so well and the clinic is so excited to have Brian and us come! We are so sad that we are leaving Columbia, because most of our friends and family are here. :( We are excited to be close to family again, because Brian's family is in Greenwood. Hope all goes well and I will try to keep better up to date with our blog!

Noah's 1st Birthday

Noah and Anderson have a great time playing together, especially now that Noah can interact and get around much better. Although Noah always wants to pull Anderson's hair, I think he just might be wondering what happened to his hair. It is so neat that they are so close and can grow up together. Noah's New Best Friend!

Now that Noah has started crawling, he has a new best friend, Mia. Now that Mia is on his eye level, he is intrigue by her. He adores all the dogs, but loves his Mia. Mia loves on him back with kisses and allows him to do whatever he wants. He gets so upset when we close the back door and he can't see the dogs, so a lot of the time we open the back door and he just sits, laughs, and talks to the dogs. He loves it and just smiles the whole time!

Although we thought Noah was never going to crawl, he finally successfully did it right before his 11 month birthday. YAY FOR NOAH!!!! I guess "better late than never!" He is even happier than ever, because he is now on the move. We will see what is next to come from Noah!

Noah is going to be a BIG BROTHER!!!!

We have some great news...Noah is going to be a BIG BROTHER!!! As you can tell in the picture above, Noah is so excited with the news! :) As some of you know it took us some time to get pregnant with Noah. We ended up having to do some fertility, so when we were thinking of getting pregnant again, we decided to start early. We were going to start trying in January, but low and behold, we were already pregnant in December. What a sense of humor God has, because we thought it was going to take some time like last time. We are so excited that we didn't have the stress of that again, that this baby came along so easy! We are also so excited that they will be so close together, because Brian and I always wanted that. Now 17 months apart will be a test, but I know we are up to the challenge! We feel so blessed to now have 2 children! We can not wait to see what God has in store for our family! I am now almost 13 weeks pregnant.

Noah's Tummy Crunch Workout

I guess all of the random "big boy" comments by strangers have really gotten inside Noah's head. I think he might be trying to burn some calories by doing some tummy crunches. Don't worry Noah, mommy and daddy think you are perfect just the way you are...BIG BONED! :) Noah's favorite spot is sitting in the sink and watch his momma get ready every morning. He is happy as a horse sitting there watching me fix my hair and doing my make up. He is just so amazed by the hair dryer. Most of all he loves to look at himself in the mirror.

Noah's New Moves

Even though Noah is still not crawling, he is learning a lot these days. He is a smart boy, but we are thinking maybe he might be athletic as he shows us how he can pass the ball. He can now give "high five" and "high ten." It's so funny that he learned this so quickly, but all the other things we have been trying to teach him for months like crawling and "bye bye", he still has not yet grasped! Oh well atleast he is learning some things. In the past week or two, Noah has also leaned some bad habits like beating on his tray for food, screaming for no reason at the top of his lungs, and screaming for food when he sits in his high chair. If any mom knows how to stop this little habit, please share the advice, I am just blaming it on his "time of the month" and soon this will pass! Yeah right! :)

THE VAHJEN FAMILY IS MOVING TO GREENWOOD

We recently signed a contract or should I say Brian signed a contract with Greenwood Eye Clinic in Greenwood, SC. After 12 long years of sweat and tears, Brian will finish his residency with USC June 18, 2010! :) We can not believe that the day is almost here and we feel very blessed to finally make it to this point in our lives. We interviewed at about 6-7 different practices, but we felt that Greenwood was were we were called to be and was the best option for Brian to practice in and the best for our family. We feel great that our decision is made and are very excited for what there is to come for Brian and our family in the next page of our lives together. We feel so blessed by God to have made it this far and for the opportunity that awaits us! We appreciate all the love and support from our families to get to this point. I am so very proud of my husband's extreme hard work and his great love for our family. He is such a wonderful husband and awesome father. There are no words to express his hard work hour after hour he has put in for the last 12 years to become a doctor. I love him so much and so does our little Noah. Please keep us in your prayers as we put our house on the market and continue onto our mission field in Greenwood.

So Sorry It Has Been Soooooooo Long!!!!

This post is dedicated to April Stutts and Betsy Mitchell, as they have been on my back that I have been such a terrible blogger! I vow to all that one of my new years resolution is to keep up with my blog on a regular basis. I wanted to give everyone an update on our lives. I am now a stay at home mom as of January 15. I felt like this was a decision that needed to be made since we have been so blessed to be able to do it. I felt that at home with my little Noah is where God wanted me to be. Noah is now 9 months old and we can't believe it. He is getting so big and doesn' miss a meal. He now has 8 teeth, which I think is more teeth than any other 9month old. He has been teething since he was 3 months old! He is such a blessing and smiles all the time at just about anyone. Brian is still working hard for our family and will FINALLY be done with his residency in June!!!! We continue our lives in Greenwood, SC where Brian has signed with Greenwood Eye Clinic. We have prayed about it and feel this is where God wants us to be. We are very excited, but very nervous for the change. Well that is the short update and hopefully the next updates will come more frequently!

PLAYING WITH MY FRIENDS...

Noah is now at the age where he recognizes other babies. Its amazing to see the interaction between babies. We have had a few play dates with Anderson (Noah's cousin) and Hannah (Emilie Ingram's daughter). Anderson is exactly 6 months ahead of Noah and Hanna is 1 month older than Noah. So we get to see what Noah might be doing in the next month and the next 6 months. Its amazing how fast they grow. We went for a play date and to the pool with Hanna and Emilie. We went to the beach, the lake, and did P90X with Anderson and April. What fun Noah has had!

Noah has been such a great baby. He is a sweetheart and we have been so blessed. Lately, Noah has had some problems with his acid reflux, so he has been in some pain lately. We hate it cause we can't stand to see him hurting. He is being treated with Axid right now, so we pray it starts to work soon, so we can have our little Noah back without him hurting. Today Noah is 2 months old. Brian and I can't believe it. Lately he has been giving us so many smiles and is so happy!

NOAH PATRICK VAHJEN Thursday night at about 11:30, I woke up with some pain. Brian and I waited as my contractions started. We smiled at eachother and said, "is it really time, is this really it," because I was at 39 weeks. As we sat in bed for 2 hours, my contractions worsened and became closer together (5 minutes apart) So off we went to the hospital at 2:30 am. They put us in a room, but they were not going to admit us yet. They checked me and I was 3 cm dilated and 90% efaced, which is what I was already at the doctor a couple of days earlier. My contractions worsened to ever 3-4 minutes, but I was still not dilated anymore. As most of you know by now I was in severe pain with no drugs, because they still had not decided to admit me since I had not progressed with dilation. It was now about 6:00, still no drugs were given to me and they told us to walk the labor and delivery halls for an hour, yes an hour to see if I would dialate. As Brian and I were walking, my water broke in the middle of the hallway in front of everyone there to see. How embarassing!!! We told the nurses, so of course now they were ready to admit me. Shocking! So to make a long story short, I labored for 8 hours with no drugs, not by choice! I finally got my epidural and 30 minutes later I was already 10 cm and they told me to push. BRIAN AND I RIGHT BEFORE PUSHING Noah ended up being "sunny side up" (face up), so it took over 2 hours of pushing to get him out, but what a glorious moment in our lives, this little miracle. He was absolutely precious!!! We cried and thanked God for our little Noah. They had to take him from us, as he swallowed a bunch of fluid during labor, but off Brian went with him to the nursery, so I knew he was in good hands with his new proud father. We were transfered to a room and all our friends and family were there, which was so wonderful to have! They were all so proud of our new little Noah. Our postpardum stay was wonderful at Baptist. Noah was born on Good Friday and we brought him home on Easter, how fitting to the new beginning of our miracle son's new life!!! Brian and I feeled so blessed by God to have our new healthy son and are just enjoying being a mom and a dad! WE ARE HAVING THE TIMES OF OUR LIVES AND CAN'T WAIT FOR THE TIMES TO COME!

OUR STORY OF HOW WE GOT TO THIS WONDERFUL PLACE IN OUR LIVES... Brian and I wanted to be married for a while before we decided to have children. So after being married for a couple years, we decided to start trying. We thought that getting pregnant would be easy, but low and behold it was probably the biggest test of our relationship with eachother and our relationship with God. I only tell this story because going through this was extremly hard for us, yet we thought we were the only ones because it seems like nobody talks about the bad, just the good. So I tell this story to maybe help out others having a tough time, because in the end the result is so amazing how God worked in both of our lives through it all. To make a long story short, we basically were off birth control for about a year and a 1/2. While we have been actively trying to get pregnant for about 5 months, my period dropped off the deep end. We ended up going to the doctor where he put me on fertility medicine, as he told us there was no way that we would get pregnant. He put me on Clomid for 4 months. Each month uping the dose, because each month my body failed to ovulate. This was tough for me, because I did not know what was wrong with my body, for crying out loud I was only 27 years of age (my eggs should not be acting this old)! Each month we had to do a blood test to check for ovulation and each time, my numbers were very low, meaning I never ovulated. In the last month he had to put me on the highest dose of clomid. I began to have problems,like weight gain and pressure, so Brian and I went to see the doctor and he ended up doing an ultrasound to find I had cysts on both ovaries the size of a fist. Of course Brian and I were scared and upset, as the doctor told us we had to go off all fertility for 6 weeks. Since we had now been trying to get pregnant for a year, we basically had to stop trying and take a break. We were so upset and asked God why this now? As all of us question God, he always has a plan. 6 weeks later we went back to the doctor and the cyst had gone down, so we were ready for the next plan of action, but the doctor wasn't. He wanted us to see a fertility specialist, since I had reacted to the fertility medicine badly. Again we had to wait, so we made an appointment. Well Brian and I looked at this waiting period as an emotional break that we needed. Low and behold during all this time, God had his plan. During this break is when we concieved our little baby boy, Noah. While we were coming home from a trip from Brian's hometown in Greenwood, I was up all night with just a wierd feeling that I might be pregnant, which I knew I should not get my hopes up just like everyother time. On the way home I told Brian to stop so we could buy a test. He really didn't want to, as he did not want us to get our hopes knocked down once again, but he agreed to get one. Right when we got home I asked Brian if he was ready as he replied, "right now?" I laughed and said yes I can't wait. Brian was the first to see the test and he replied, "it can't be, there is no way, that can't be positive!" (We did not know what a positive test looked like as we had just seen so many negative tests!) 7 WEEKS PREGNANT IN MEXICO! Words cannot express how happy we were jumping up and down, with tears running down our face, but "God is Good!" We were tested so many times in that year, but our faith only grew stronger and we only grew closer together. As tough as it was, God has his plan and he will always come through, not sometimes how we want him to, but in his time. Brian and I can't express how excited we are for our little baby Noah to make his entrance into our lives and our family. We can't wait to touch him, meet him, and kiss his little tiny hands all over. All we can say is GOD IS GOOD, HE IS SO GOOD!

OUR 3 LITTLE FURRY LOVED ONES...MIA~KAILI~BUDDY

Mia~Our precious blonde female lab/sharpe mix. Mia was our very first baby who we got for me to have a companion while Brian and I were apart during his first year of medical school. Mia was a lucky girl spending the first year of her life living in the "soccer house" my senior year of college. We rescued her from the humane society when she was only 9 weeks old. She is an independent soul, but one of our best behaved babies. She is the type of women everyone wants to be blonde, skinny, beautiful, and all muscle, not an ounce of fat! Kaili~ She is our loving, yellow female lab/golden retriever mix. We found Kaili one day with her litter of 9 puppies only 8 weeks old. We picked all of them up and took them to Pets Inc. so they could be adopted. We dropped all the puppies and Kaili off, but as we were leaving, Kaili jump up on the counter crying out of control for us to come back to her. With tears rolling down our eyes, we went back into Pets Inc. and adopted her immediately. She was the third of our dogs we took in and what a blessing Kaili has been to our family. Even though she had some separation anxiety, she is the most cuddly and loving dog! Buddy~ He is the sweet, fun loving and only male of the bunch. He is a white lab/hound mix with black spots. He is such a beautiful dog and always gets compliments from all the ladies. He is our adopted son, who's biological father still keeps in touch and visits all the time with treats galore. Sometime we wonder what goes on in that head of his, but he has the biggest heart out of all of our loved ones. Buddy is the most loving dog and always wants to be by our side just waiting to give us some pure lovin'. We have been so blessed to have him in our lives, because when your having a bad day, just looking at Buddy will always put a smile on your face

Brian and Me

Brian and I met way back when at Lander University in my freshman year of college. We both played soccer at Lander, so this was how we met. Brian and I started dating the first month of our freshman year. We dated all throughout college never breaking up. Brian was ahead of me by one year, so when I was a senior at Lander, Brian went off to Columbia for Medical School at the University of South Carolina. I was so proud of his hard work! We were apart for a year, which was the toughest year we had to go through. Being apart from the one you love so much is excruciating! After I graduated College, I of course moved down to Columbia to be near Brian, who was now in his 2nd year of Medical School. I thought that we would get engaged almost immediately, but I was wrong! :) I ended up looking for a job and becoming financially stable for the next year, as to my final surprise Brian finally proposed!!!!:) This was one of the happiest days of my life. After 5 years of dating, I could finally call him my husband. Brian and I have now been so happily married for 5 years and we have 3 dogs we call our children. (Mia, Kaili, and Buddy) We are now expecting our first son anyday now, NOAH. We are so excited for his arrival and just can't wait. We have waited for this moment to share together for a long time! Brian and I feel so blessed by God to have found each other and feel that so lucky to be this happy together. Just when you think things can't get better, they get better everyday!
